Crown Vetch Inoculation
- Packet treats 15 lbs of crownvetch seed.
- Crownvetch has not been extensively grown, and seed should always be inoculated before seeding. A specific strain of bacteria is required for proper inoculation of crownvetch. Crownvetch seeds are very small and smooth. Take special care to be sure the inoculation adheres to the seed. Water sweetened with sugar will make the inoculum mix more adhesive.
- Inoculation consists of coating the crownvetch seed with a proper strain of bacteria. Once the seed germinates, the bacteria enter the root hairs and form a nodule. The bacteria living inside the nodule take nitrogen from the air and convert it into a form the plant requires.
